Began training at the age of 16, as a member of the Brooklyn Highland Park Y.M.C.A. and tested for Cho Dan in June 1969. My original instructor was Mr. Michael Masley, Dan Bon 10181, Sam Dan (Never received dan bon from Korea due to political issues. Recertified as a dan member in 1990, now a certified 4th dan under the Moo Duk Kwan, dan bon 29085. In July of 2012, after petitioning the Kwan Jang Nim for my original Dan Bon, I received my original Dan Bon 13927 based on my June 1969 testing date, after verifying the legitimate connection of my original instructor as a Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan instructor.
